Mostly out of the public eye, Berlin-based inhouse engineering has been working for years behind the scenes on a fuel cell system that does not quite fit in with other suppliers‘ product offerings. With 5 kW capacity, it is much more powerful than devices offered by, for example, IBZ partners (see list on p. 13). Likewise, it is used mainly to supply energy for commercial multi-family and business properties, not single- or two-family homes.

Sebastian-Justus Schmidt is not only an unusual name. The man with that name is also an extraordinary person – and he does things that are anything but ordinary. In October 2019 sent out invitations to Thailand so that he could present his idea of a microgrid, a small, self-sufficient energy supply system.

Great Wall Motor (GWM) did not join H2 Mobility as originally planned. At the end of October 2018, a press release stated that the Chinese market leader for off-road vehicles and pickups wanted to invest in the German hydrogen filling station network. Nikolas Iwan, Managing Director of H2 Mobility, told the FAZ that he had contacted GWM at the beginning of 2018.

For me, the new year started off with a bang: While hydrogen and fuel cells had rarely been discussed at the many energy conferences held in past years, power-to-gas, electrolyzers and fuel cells are quickly seizing the spotlight these days. It’s very good news for technology suppliers listed on the stock exchange, especially for those mentioned below. The market has finally built enough momentum, and the public is taking note. Also, Tesla’s position as the leader of the field took a bit of a hit in 2018: Competition grew fiercer, with more and more businesses offering electric or hybrid models.

Due to a population that continues to grow and a booming economy, India will be the country to experience the largest increase in energy demand by 2040, according to the IEA’s latest World Energy Outlook published in 2017. The immense hunger for energy is being driven mainly by additions of generation capacity as well as electric vehicles. The government knows that fossil fuels will be able to meet only part of that huge demand. (more…)
