Renewably sourced hydrogen is an essential energy carrier for achieving COP21 climate targets. The gas can store and deliver energy anywhere, anytime, meeting demand regardless of generation facilities and end users.
Green gas: A business model
Viessmann is restructuring both its fuel cell and biomethane divisions. Its newly founded holding company, Schmack BioEnergie, specializes in biogas with an increasing focus on biological methanation. As early as this year, Viessmann will start construction on the first commercial methanation unit in Switzerland.
Stralsund has written H2 history
It all started almost forty years ago. At that time his interest in energy brought him to hydrogen. Since then Prof. Jochen Lehmann, a veteran of the German H2 industry, has achieved a lot: He initiated the installation of the complex laboratory Alternative Energy at the University of Applied Sciences Stralsund with the world’s first hydrogen storage power plant, …
Potentials of a future energy system
The energy system of the future faces numerous challenges with its increasing decarbonisation, the further expansion of renewable energies and the coupling of the electricity, heat, transport and industrial sectors.
Lignite versus H2 power plant
A stable energy supply in the future can only be ensured with the storage of energy on a large scale. On the basis of the liquid organic hydrogen carrier system (LOHC) and with the aid of PEM electrolysis and solid oxide fuel cells, the dimensions and above all the capacity of a storage power plant to replace…
What exactly is power-to-X?
Efforts to transform the energy sector have so far focused on increasing renewable generation capacity to lay the foundation for a future energy system. This has made the use of electricity in the heat and transportation markets all the more important, since electric power is an efficient means of generating and using renewable sources of energy.
ZSW Gets New Building
ZSW, the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research, has seen the addition of a new building in the state capital of Baden-Württemberg, Stuttgart, Germany. It was officially inaugurated on July 5 in the presence of the state’s economy minister, Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, and the mayor of Stuttgart, Fritz Kuhn. The expansion is said to house … Read more
ESE and IRES Become One
Messe Düsseldorf and the European Association for Renewable Energy (EUROSOLAR) agreed at the end of last October to work together more closely in the future. They signed a collaboration agreement to better link the International Renewable Energy Storage Conference (IRES) with the Energy Storage Europe (ESE). The tenth year since its inception will see IRES – which is considered by its organizers to be the “leading conference on research and social aspects of energy storage” – merge with ESE, a conference primarily focused on economic and financial issues.
H2 Storage Ground Under
Europe’s first research facility to test the storage opportunities for hydrogen at former natural gas reservoirs was inaugurated last fall in Austria’s city of Pilsbach. On October 5, Austria‘s Minister for Transport, Innovation and Technology, Alois Stöger, celebrated the inauguration of the plant, which is part of the EUR 4.5 million project Underground Sun Storage
BMW Presents New 5 Series Boasting Fuel-Cell Engine
This summer car manufacturer BMW presented a new vehicle driven by a fuel cell. In Miramar in the south of France, the Bavarian company revealed their new BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo (GT) on the first of July 2015. The car is a showcase vehicle, which was developed in cooperation with Toyota and is planned for mass production by 2020.
