At the end of September 2017, the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology and Swiss consulting firm E4tech held a forum on how to transform the energy industry through sector integration. The purpose of the gathering was to discuss the legal, financial and technical barriers to greater interaction between energy sectors, determined prior to the event through an analysis of possibly interrelated factors, and to come up with solutions. It took Pragma Industries, a French manufacturer of fuel cell bikes, fewer than 3 weeks to reach the EUR 300,000 goal of its early November crowdfunding campaign. The amount, which has meanwhile grown to over half a million euros, is planned to help with the construction of the first lpha bikes in Biarritz. The lpha 2.0, the company’s second generation of hydrogen-powered pedal cycles, comes with a 250-watt electric motor (more…)

Incentives for electrolyzers

On Nov. 14, 2017, the National Organization Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology extended the list of eligible technologies in the NIP 2 rollout program to include electrolyzers producing hydrogen at gas stations. These new incentives could mark an important milestone in the country’s infrastructure buildup. Their implementation was a response to the drumbeat of criticism levelled at the authors of NIP 2, who were said to have ignored the technology altogether. (more…)
